01 / Applications

Use cases & priorities

01

Near-shore operations

Check network coverage along working routes and at the berth. A phone signal at one location does not establish reliable coverage for the whole voyage.

02

Offshore requirements

Determine whether updates are needed beyond cellular coverage. Discuss a compatible communication method; GPS positioning alone cannot transmit data ashore.

03

Marine installation

Review power, antenna location, mounting and exposure to moisture or salt. Environmental suitability must be checked against the final model documentation.

02 / GPS & IoT

Plan the complete setup

GPS positioning does not transmit a location by itself. Cellular, LoRaWAN or satellite connectivity must be selected for the operating environment.

  1. 01

Check local coverage, supported bands and reporting frequency before choosing a device.

  2. 02

Confirm mounting, fit, enclosure protection and maintenance with the final hardware specification.

  3. 03

Confirm platform access, data ownership, integration protocol and recurring costs.

03 / Deployment

Field trial checklist

  • Record the intended route and the communication method for each segment.
  • Verify installation and power under the vessel’s operating conditions.
  • Measure reporting gaps and check any supported buffering behaviour.
  • Define what the shore team should do when updates stop; do not rely on a tracker as the sole safety system.

Development & OEM

Customization may cover enclosure, branding, firmware and integration. Scope, minimum order and certification require review.

Good questions. Clear answers.

01Does GPS need a SIM card?

GPS receives positioning signals. Sending that position to an app requires a separate connection, such as cellular, LoRaWAN or satellite, depending on the device.

02Will a tracker work at sea?

Cellular service depends on local coverage. Offshore use may require satellite communication; GPS alone cannot send a location ashore.

03How long will the battery last?

Reporting interval, signal strength, temperature and battery capacity all matter. Ask for measurements under your actual usage conditions.

04Can I customize a product?

Prepare your target market, connectivity, enclosure, quantity and integration requirements. Feasibility, minimum order and certification need project-specific confirmation.
