Solar GPS Cattle Collar for Connected Ranch Management

Finding cattle across open pastures can take considerable time, especially when animals move behind hills, into tree cover or away from normal grazing routes. The JSC-805 solar GPS cattle collar gives ranch teams access to reported livestock locations and movement records through a connected management platform.

The solution combines a wearable tracking collar, a selected communication network and web or mobile management. It can be configured for projects ranging from small pilot herds to larger ranch deployments.

Locate Cattle and Review Grazing Routes

The collar uses GPS and BeiDou positioning to obtain outdoor coordinates. Location records help staff find animals, review grazing movements and investigate unexpected changes in their usual routes.

Positioning frequency and reporting frequency should be selected according to the ranch’s needs. More frequent updates can improve movement visibility, while longer intervals can reduce energy use.

The platform should display the position timestamp so operators can distinguish a recent location from an older report.

Choose 4G or LoRaWAN Connectivity

A 4G cattle collar sends data through a compatible cellular network. This option suits ranches with suitable mobile coverage and can simplify deployments that do not require private LoRaWAN infrastructure.

A LoRaWAN cattle collar sends data to a compatible gateway. The gateway forwards received messages to the server through an available internet connection.

Gateway-based deployments require coverage planning. Terrain, vegetation, antenna installation and the animal’s position can affect reception. A ranch pilot provides a more useful basis for deployment decisions than an advertised maximum communication distance.

The communication version should be confirmed before ordering; different versions may use different hardware and firmware.

Solar-Assisted Power for Outdoor Use

The JSC-805 combines a 20,000mAh battery with solar-assisted charging.

Solar input can supplement stored energy, but charging performance varies with sunlight, panel orientation, dirt, shading and seasonal conditions. Operating time also depends on positioning frequency, network conditions and enabled functions.

For this reason, battery performance should be evaluated under the intended reporting settings and ranch environment.

Geofence Monitoring and Boundary Events

Users can define grazing areas and monitor reported entry or exit events through the platform.

A practical geofence configuration should account for positioning uncertainty near the boundary. Buffer distances and confirmation rules can help reduce repeated alerts caused by small coordinate variations.

Platform geofence alerts depend on receiving suitable location data. Projects requiring local animal-control actions should confirm the collar’s onboard boundary storage, decision logic and behavior during communication interruptions.

Activity and Device Monitoring

Supported activity data can help ranch staff review movement trends and identify animals or devices requiring inspection.

Unusual inactivity may have several explanations, including normal rest, a detached collar, restricted movement or an animal needing attention. Activity-based notifications support inspection and management; they do not establish a medical diagnosis.

Battery status and offline monitoring also help maintenance teams identify charging needs and communication problems.

Outdoor Collar Construction

The IP68-rated enclosure is intended for outdoor livestock applications.

A successful installation also depends on the complete collar assembly. Strap durability, attachment strength, enclosure orientation and animal comfort should be checked during the pilot and routine inspections.

Suitability for sheep, horses or other livestock should be assessed separately according to device size, collar fit and the selected functions.

Platform and Integration Options

The connected system supports web and mobile management according to the chosen deployment.

Project requirements can include herd grouping, individual animal records, historical routes, geofence events, device-status monitoring and API access.

Private-server deployment and customized reports can be discussed for customers who need integration with existing ranch software or their own data infrastructure.

OEM and ODM Development

Shenzhen Jinshengchang Technology Co., Ltd. provides livestock tracking hardware and system-development services.

Customization can cover communication modules, regional frequency settings, firmware behavior, sensor integration, enclosure branding, platform interfaces and API connections.

To plan a suitable solution, provide the destination country, herd size, pasture map, required reporting interval and available cellular or gateway infrastructure.

Overview

The JSC-805 solar GPS cattle collar helps ranchers locate cattle, review grazing movements and receive boundary and device-status alerts. With a 20,000mAh battery, solar-assisted charging and an IP68-rated enclosure, it is designed for outdoor livestock tracking. Choose a 4G or LoRaWAN configuration according to local network coverage and ranch infrastructure. Web and mobile management, API integration and OEM/ODM customization are available according to the selected solution.

During routine grazing, each collar obtains a location according to its configured schedule and sends the available data through the selected communication network. The platform displays the latest reported position, location time, battery information and supported activity data. Ranch staff can select a herd, inspect an individual animal and review its movement history. When a valid reported position meets a configured boundary rule, the system can generate an entry or exit alert. Low-battery and offline events help staff identify devices requiring attention. Activity changes can provide an additional reason to inspect an animal. They should be interpreted alongside normal behavior, environmental conditions and an on-site assessment. On supported virtual-fencing versions, sound and electrical stimulation functions require a separately confirmed configuration, suitable animal training and defined operating procedures.

GPS positioning does not transmit a location by itself. Cellular, LoRaWAN or satellite connectivity must be selected for the operating environment.

What to evaluate

  • Check local coverage, supported bands and reporting frequency before choosing a device.
  • Confirm battery life under real conditions. Signal strength, reporting interval and temperature affect performance.
  • Confirm mounting, fit, enclosure protection and maintenance with the final hardware specification.
  • Confirm platform access, data ownership, integration protocol and recurring costs.
